At TVU we introduced e-learning into our masters course after it became
distance learning. Initially this was for the last 3 modules (of 6) but
from next year will be right from the start. It has been very valuable,
though we aim to improve the integration based on our experience and
will use it throughout the programme, for appropriate aspects of the
work, (not all) when we revalidate the programme. Particularly useful
for enabling the students to interact with each other in a DL course,
including online seminars. It can also be useful for adding additional
learning resources, and for posting info etc.
It takes time to set up and get into the swing of it, and you need to
allow for moderator time for group discussions etc but can be very
rewarding.
We don't yet use it with pre-reg students, but some of the nursing
programmes are now using Blackboard as a one-stop portal for info,
including last minute updates, handouts, lecture notes, group
allocations etc. We may develop some use in pre-reg in the future.

Here at Surrey University, we are beginning to explore the introduction
of e-learning into the midwifery curriculum and would welcome your
experiences of on-line learning.
