Dear Chris
The ICM do sponsor places for midwives to attend the conference and the
pre-conference workshops. They are organised through the member associations
and are usually awarded to midwives from countries wher per capita income is
low

Dear Jan
thanks very much for this info.
It seems such a shame that the conference is too expensive for
consumers, and no doubt many midwives too. It would be nice if ICM were
able to obtain some grant funding to support a number of consumers and
practitioners from the host country each time, in addition to the
existing bursaries. I wonder if anyone has ideas on how this might be
pursued? any international bodies who might support such a thing?ps - Jan. I
might be interested or able to take partChris

organising a number of events around the ICM. Notices will be
postedon our website in a few days, but basically we are planning to
offer:(i) a 2-day conference for consumers (unable to afford the ICM
registrationfees) hopefully offering them the opportunity to hear many
visitingspeakers; we will be calling for expressions of interest. Our venue
is
nextto the Convention Centre.(ii) a Denis Walsh workshop for midwives on
Evidence Based Care for
NormalLabour and Birth (pre-ICM so you can attend both).(iii) An Art
exhibition. We have a number of small businesses and community groups
interested inexhibiting their products and services in an accessible venue
for ICMregistrants - unfortunately the ICM costs are too high for most.More
information will be on our website
shortly.http://www.capersbookstore.com.auJan CornfootCapers Bookstore& Birth
