Most e-books seem to use PDF (Adobe Acrobat format). The latest version of the free Acrobat Reader includes many access features including 'read aloud' and a zoom (magnify) feature. See: http://www.adobe.com/enterprise/accessibility/readcontent.html

Subject: Re: e-books for everyone?
I think that e-books are wonderful products but do the issues of users and professionals with partial sight/degrees of visual impairment get addressed?

E-Books for Everyone? : the 4th annual E-Books Seminar
There are still some places left at the 4th annual e-books seminar in
Glasgow on 1 October 2004 and hear a range of speakers from across the
sectors talk about their experience in this area.
We are delighted to welcome Rich Rosy from OCLC who will provide an
overview of the e-books scene. A LASER-funded pioneering project to test
the feasibility of e-book provision in public libraries will be described
by Linda Berube and Martin Palmer from Co-East/Essex Libraries. Peter
Wynne from NoWAL will speak on their experience of making a large e-book
collection available to a HE library consortium.
Fionnuala Cassidy will speak about the role of the JISC collections team
in acquiring and making available collections of high quality resources of
relevance to learning, teaching and recent agreements bringing e-books
into Further Education.
Nick Morgan from Learning & Teaching Scotland will outline current ICT,
Internet and digital content issues in schools and explore some of the
likely directions for future development.
Comments from the 2003 seminar:
'An excellent day - well presented and content rich'
'Very informative and lively'
'Excellent programme overall'
