Bob Usherwood (Update July/August 2004 p 16), argues for more thinking
rather than diving in with "on the cheap" reactions to whatever issue
is currently burning.
I wonder if there isn't a prior need: passionate advocacy to stimulate
the constructive thinker.
Attempts to marshall such passion under the "Library Campaign" banner
have been ineffective, in my view, at the national level.
If Tim Coates's report represents a wake-up call, there are no signs
yet that the public library world isn't having a lie in.
Of course it may be reading in bed and making notes. Time will tell.
