COMPETITIVE INTELLIGENCE SKILLS FOR LIBRARY AND INFORMATION PROFESSIONALS
23 MARCH 2004, BIRMINGHAM
Competitive Intelligence (CI) is increasingly seen as a distinct business management discipline, which provides an input into a whole range of decision-making processes. There are significant opportunities for mainstream library and information professionals who are ambitious enough to move beyond the traditional passive role of library and information units to a service more focussed on, and driven by, business outcomes.
During the workshop participants will gain an overview of the key issues in effective CI provision through formal presentations, group discussion and syndicate exercises.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
* an awareness of the state of the art in CI and the business frameworks which it
supports
* used the Internet creatively to address specific CI issues
* considered the importance of non-published sources in CI
* explored the relationship between library and information staff and CI
* looked at legal and ethical issues
WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM ATTENDING?
Those who wish to understand the boundaries and tools and techniques of CI. It will also be of interest to whose who have attended the "Subject guide to the Internet: Company Information" workshop and now wish to explore how traditional library research can be developed in wider context.
WORKSHOP LEADER: Terry Kendrick
Terry originally trained as a librarian and worked in the profession for over ten years. He is now a trainer, writer and consultant, specialising in marketing planning with an understanding of current library issues.
PREVIOUS PARTICIPANTS FEEDBACK:
