We are looking at making all our periodicals reference only. Currently all
periodicals are available for loan through the Dynix system.
However this proposal has caused numerous complaints, primarily from
academics and taught postgraduates, in Arts and Humanities.
If you have a default reference collection of periodicals can you let me know:-
1. do you allow exceptions, ie give certain user categories the right to
borrow, eg academics and/or research postgraduates, disabled users etc
2. do you only allow borrowing if a case is made to staff for an exception.
If so, on what grounds would you allow a periodical to be loaned
3. which Library Management System do you use (we are moving from Dynix to
Aleph this Summer)
4. if you allow certain user categories to borrow, can the borrowing be
done through your LMS, either manually or through self-issue or do you have
to use eg slips
5. if you have a reference collection, with absolutely no borrowing
allowed, how do you deal with complaints from the academic community
Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
