Colleagues!
I hope you get the following table, I am optimistic (but unsure) it will
get through.
Max FTE Institution
6 472 ft - 2485 pt FE
1 book per 10 students on course 1400 6th
1-ref 2-lending 850 ft 6th
5/6 220 FE
5 3500 HE
1 for the moment apart from specified core texts. Setting up new
centre. 200 HE (within FE)
1 per 10 students on module 28,000 students of which 9,000 pt
HE
1 copy per student (contractual requirement) 1500 HE (Military)
1 of essential texts (more if they are donated) unsure FE
200-300 students on module 10 copies
10-20 students on module 2 copies HE
2-4 740 6th
4 1,200 FE
10 (not v.often) 3500 FE
v. often)
v. often)
6 10,510 FE
10 (absolute max and v. rare it happens) 2000 6th
Depends on number of students likely to use book, e.g. more Gross
Psychology than Duchess of Malfi Large FE FE
Several craft areas rely heavily on a few key texts. Purchase a copy
for each 15 issues per annum (check LMS). Sometimes have 50 copies of
top few titles FE
Additional comments:
* Have several different loan periods including 7-day, 3-day and 4
hours
* The aim of the LRC stock is to supplement information given in
students text books and lectures and not to provide multiple copies of
essential texts (there would be no money for anything else)
* Real lack of space adds to the mix (of the amount of copies)
* If tutors want a copy for each student they have the option of
purchasing a class set from the faculty budget and the library will
administer the books for them on request
* We do split the cost wil department of 'class sets' of 10 copies
which are for one-day tutor loan only but are in the library as
reference for students
Make of this what you will,
Regards,
Gillian Rutherford
