Article 15-6 Investigation of the 800th Military Police Brigade
Alternative Title: Taguba Report
Description: This site provides access to a report by Major General Antonio Taguba into allegations of human rights violations by US military forces against Iraqi detainees and prisoners of war in the Abu Ghaib prison, Iraq. It was originally a classified US government document, but was leaked and then made available to the public in May 2004. It is reproduced here on the BBC web site. The report provides evidence of widespread sexual and human rights abuse. Users should note that the text is in pdf format and therefore requires access to an Adobe Acrobat Reader for use.

AEI Energy Policy Unit
Description: This is the web site of the Adam Smith Energy Policy Unit. It is an independent think tank which is concerned with all aspects of British energy policy. This includes coverage of energy economics, energy demand and supply, energy markets and finance,privatisation, the security of power supplies, sustainable development, the environment and energy. Water, gas, electricity, nuclear power, renewable power sources and wind power are covered. The site includes recent press releases, project details and some full text policy papers.

Network of Activist Scholars of Politics and International Relations
Description: NASPIR(Network of Activist Scholars of Politics and International Relations) is a professional association which aims to promote non-violent political activism amongst academic, researchers and scholars in the field of international politics. The web site provides access to recent press releases and reports published by the network. It also contains details of research programmes and other activities. Key issues of concern include: anti-war movements, opposition to the 'war against terrorism, action against globalisation, British and American foreign policy research and the promotion of media freedom and an alternative press. Links are also provided to the email newsgroup maintained by NASPIR and other radical politics Internet resources, including commentary by Noam Chomsky.

National Atlas of the United States of America
Alternative Title: National Atlas of the United States
Description: The National Atlas of the United States provides access to '... map like views of America's natural and sociocultural landscapes'. The Atlas is a United States government initiative, led by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). It originated in 1970 as a hard copy collection of maps, and in 1997 moved to both electronic and paper formats. The Atlas has since become largely digital and is designed to present in map form the data collected by the Federal Government. The Atlas includes online interactive maps that users may display, print, and query. Maps include links to related sites on the Internet as well as documentation for each map layer and articles that explain why the data were collected and how they have been utilised.

Winning Women's'' Votes: Labour's Key to the Next General Election

Description: This site provides access to a report by Laura Turquet, which was based on research by MORI, and published by the Fawcett Society in May 2004. Additional material was added by Jessica Elgood and Dr Roger Mortimore. It traces women's level of support for the British Labour Party from the 1950s until 2004, revealing high levels of dissatisfaction with current policies and the leadership of Tony Blair. Data is available on women's voter turnout levels and differences in levels of support for the Labour party among women by age, race and social class. Morris Inquiry
Description: The Morris Inquiry was launched in 2004 under the chairmanship of Sir William Morris. It is an independent inquiry commissioned by the Metropolitan Police Service to investigate matters relating to employment and professional standards in the Metropolitan Police. A key issue of concern is equal opportunities and race relations in the force following key race discrimination cases brought by Gurpal Virdi. The web site provides details of the terms of reference of the Inquiry, its membership and activities. It includes transcripts of evidence and reports.

Chief Executive's report to the NHS May 2004
Description: This site provides access to the full text of the report which was published by the Department of Health in May 2004. It reviews the performance of the British National Health Service in the Period 2003-4. This includes statistics on performance, waiting list times, services provided in hospitals and staffing. Indices of Deprivation 2004
Alternative Title: English Indices of Deprivation 2004, The
Author: Office of the Deputy Prime Minister
Description: Produced by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Indices of Deprivation (ID 2004), provide measures of deprivation for each Super Output Area and local authority area in England. The report combines a number of indicators across seven main areas into into a single deprivation score and rank for each area. The seven main areas covered are Employment, Income, Health deprivation and disability, Education, skills and training deprivation, Barriers to housing and services, Living environment, and deprivation and Crime. Details of the methodology used is provided which is based on that used to create the previous Indices of Deprivation for 2000 [q.v.]. The Web site provides access to the Summary of Indices of Deprivation as well as the full-text of the report for England. The full report is in pdf format and access to Adobe Acrobat Reader is required.

Employability: Career Management Resources for Disabled Students and Graduates
Description: The purpose of the Web site is to help disabled students and graduates to improve their employment opportunities and career skills. It contains information, activities, links and contacts to develop skills and understanding of relevant issues. The four sections are: career management, communication industries, European mobility, legislation and support. This Web site was developed by the Centre for Research and Policy in Disability (Coventry University, UK) in collaboration with partners in the UK, Greece, Sweden, Bulgaria and Cyprus as part of an EU funded programme concerned with vocational training and trans-national co- operation.
