E-learning - you decide
What's this about?
Becta have just launched a survey about e-learning (computer-based
learning) for the education sector.
They are approaching teachers/practitioners who work within Key Stage 4,
6th form, FE colleges, specialist colleges, adult community learning,
work based learning and workforce development.
Survey aims
The aim is to discover how teachers feel about using e-learning when
teaching, and what free e-learning teachers want to add value to their
teaching. The feedback from this survey will DIRECTLY affect what
e-learning is made in the future.
E-learning modules will directly reflect gaps within a lesson that are
difficult to teach using traditional methods.
E-learning in post 14 education
This isn't about replacing teaching with e-learning. It's about
enhancing the learning process.
E-learning can help to explain difficult or boring concepts. Ideas can
be shown visually, so reaching students who don't learn well through the
written word. It can gain attention and enthusiasm from learners, and is
available for revision outside of the classroom.
How do you fit in?
We strongly believe the best feedback comes from those currently
involved in teaching. That's why we're asking you to complete the
survey.
If you're sceptical about e-learning then tell us. We want results to
reflect true opinions.
The survey
The survey can be found at http://elearning-youdecide.dynalias.com
It will take no more than 20 minutes. Access is open until the end of
March, but ideally we'd like people to strike whilst the iron is hot!
Finally, if you felt it was of value perhaps you could pass this email
on to other teachers in post 14 education.
Thanks for your help.
Kind Regards,
Dr Tabetha Newman

More information
The UK Government aims to introduce more e-learning into the post 14
education system. Becta (British Educational Communications and
Technology Agency www.becta.org.uk) are charged with identifying what is
required, and then contracting the making of this e-learning to external
suppliers.
So far they've produced 2 rounds of free materials for use in the FE
sector (see www.nln.ac.uk/materials)
The free e-learning for FE has been very successful. Charles Clarke has
therefore widened Becta's remit. As of 2004 Becta are responsible for
making e-learning for use within Key Stage 4, 6th form, FE colleges,
specialist colleges, adult community learning, work based learning and
workforce development. They must now identify the areas that would
benefit most from free e-learning resources. This is where the survey
fits in.
