Information Release:
UKOLUG, the professional body for users and developers of electronic information resources, have announced details of an exciting new course aimed at Information Professionals who are having problems in dealing with information overload and its effects.
'I'm an information professional - get me out of here!' at CILIP, London, June 8th 2004 is for those who have found themselves enduring another late night at the office catching up on emails and suddenly remembering that you have an important meeting the next morning having to print out a forest of documents to read on the way home. So much for the paperless office!
If such a scenario seems familiar, then this is the meeting for those attempting to address a key paradox facing the information profession - that the very people who are expected to lead on information and knowledge management strategies in organisations are increasingly over-burdened and unable to cope.
The day will focus on three key areas: email management, personal e-document management and strategies for effective web information management and monitoring.
* Email: practical tips and techniques for getting the most out of email, and taming that inbox. Topics will include - spam management and filtering techniques, tips for prioritising and organising your mail, anti-harvesting techniques to cut down that junk
* E-document management: managing email attachments; tracking changes in documents, effective personal content management
* Web: useful tips for bookmark organisation, intelligent use of intelligent agents, Internet monitoring services
Speakers will include, Karen Blakeman, Director RBA Information Services and Online 2003 deputy conference chair and Phil Bradley, Internet Consultant, Trainer, Web designer and Author. Both will offer practical tips and advice, including suggestions for resources and both public domain and commercial software solutions. Also there will be a Q&A forum to launch a debate on the issues facing the profession in this area.
This meeting will be just £130 plus vat for members of UKOLUG and £160 plus vat for non members. To register your interest in this meeting, reserve a place, or request further details, please email [log in to unmask]
