Many thanks to all that responded to my request for reports on
experience with SEDs from the BL. Many thanks to those people who
explained how they used SEDs within their Document Deliver Service.
To summarise the responses:
The responses fell neatly into two camps.
1. Document delivery services that used SEDs to obtain the Article from
BL and then printed and distributed it themselves.
Used this way the reports described the service as excellent and that
any technical difficulties were sorted out by the BL promptly.
2. Document delivery services that attempted to replace the ADD ADDress
Photocopies with SEDs reported that they were unhappy with the service
for the following reasons.:
(a). The SED service didn't seem able to cope with multiple addresses
from the same account number.
(b). The printing off still presented problems.
(c). It Is very difficult to get all requestors to install Adobe
Reader 6. Difficulties were reported with getting global compliance
within a single institution.
(d). The 14 day time limit and the 1 print attempt allowed proved
restrictive and appeals had to be made for a repeat copy to the BL.
(e). Until electronic signatures are allowed paper has to be introduced
at ordering, therefore a totally user orientated electronic service is
not possible.
Once again Thank you all and I hope the summary is helpful.
Sincerely,
Michael.
