AN INTRODUCTION TO METADATA
This course provides an introduction to metadata, and its use in an information context.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
It is intended for any information professional wanting to explore this current aspect of the information management and to consider its effect on library. It is not a detailed training course on using XML and similar technical markup languages, but provides a way in to understanding the issues and examining the benefits.
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the day delegates will have
* examined varying definitions of metadata
* considered the relationship between metadata and cataloguing
* looked at some major standards used in the library and publishing world and at related markup languages
* considered current moves towards interoperability and global standards
* practised preparing metadata records using basic Dublin Core
