 INTRODUCTION

 EBooks can be described as simply downloadable, readable versions of
books.  E-learning has been defined as the delivery of content via all
electronic media and encompasses all learning undertaken through
electronic delivery.

What is the picture in relation to the library and information world?
This seminar aims to give an overview of new developments nationally and
regionally with regard to the technology and innovative projects.

 PROGRAMME

 AM:  eBooks and e-learning – special projects.

 10.00           Arrival and coffee.

 10.25           Welcome.

 10.30           A pilot project for eBooks in Essex library service.

Martin Palmer, Strategic Manager: Transformation and Resources, Essex
libraries.               

11.15           Collection development in eBooks and e-learning: a case
study.  Frances Hall, Information Specialist, Aston University.        

12.00           Buffet lunch.                 

PM:   National Picture and technical aspects. 

13.15           Introduction to the afternoon. 

13.20           Developments in eBooks at a national level. 

                   Dr Hazel Woodward, e-books working group,  JISC .

                   University Librarian, Cranfield University. 

14.05           E-learning: How library portals and e-journal linking
services might help. Nicholas Lewis, Electronic Resources Librarian,

THE BUSINESS

 There will be a charge of £20.00 + £3.50 VAT = £23.50 total  to members
of the East of England branch of CILIP and ANGLES members.  (In order to
find out if you are a member of one of these organizations please see
overleaf.)

 For members of CILIP outside the East of England branch, non-members of
CILIP and non-members of ANGLES there will be a charge of 

£30.00 + £5.25 VAT = £35.25 total.

The venue is the Town Close Room at the University of East Anglia
Sportspark (attendance limited to 65).  The address for correspondence
is Sportspark, University of East Anglia, University Drive, Norwich NR4
7TJ.

A map and further details on how to reach the Sportspark can be supplied
on request.  The closing date for bookings and cancellations is
Wednesday 3rd November.  For any cancellations received after this date
or non-attendance without notice the full fee will be charged.

 A buffet lunch will be available, please inform the organisers of any
special dietary requirements you may have.

DEFINITIONS

 

A member of the East of England branch of CILIP is someone who lives and
works in the counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex,
Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and the unitary authorities of Luton,
Peterborough, Southend and Thurrock.

 

ANGLES is an organization consisting of a number of library and
information services throughout Norfolk and Suffolk.  Its aims are to
promote co-operations between members and to improve access to
information.  A member of ANGLES is someone who is employed by the
information services of one of the following:
