Hi folks,
Those of you with an interest in garish bookcovers might find this site
to be of interest or amusement:
http://www.vintagepbks.com/
It's a collection of over 800 scanned book covers that could, I suppose,
be described as 1950s shocking or titillating fiction. Some of the ones
that I found most amusing are:
A woman a day (Philip Jose Farmer) "He defied the 25th century with a
woman who was NOT HIS WIFE - and a WIFE who was NOT A WOMAN"
Must I die? (Francine Wenzell) "A gutter-girl, she became a gangster's
moll... and then a tycoon's toy"
The evil sleep (Evan Hunter) "He bought forgetfulness... But a dead
blonde woke him up"
Blonde Baggage (Marty Holland) "A gold digging blonde, a handsome rake,
and the girl who didn't know the answers"
All the covers feature drawings, rather than photographs, so I think
they're safe for work, and besides, it's a historical perspective on an
interesting (?) aspect of book publishing!
Phil.
