Hi folks,
I've found another 'Friday website' that might amuse, intrigue and
inform. It's called Wordcount and it's at
http://www.wordcount.org/main.php
It presents the most frequently used English words, ranked in order of
commonality, and the data is taken from the British National Corpus.
It's fascinating to see not only the position of words, but which ones
sit either side.
For example, 'librarian' is in position 8,222 with 'discarded' before it
and 'urging' after it. 'Information' is in 219th position, with 'public'
immediately after it. 'Library' is in 1,252nd position, with 'patient'
before it and 'lived' after it. I'm not quite sure what this means, but
it's got to mean something!
Enjoy, but I warn you, it's addictive!
Phil.
