Dear lis-infoskills members,
I am proposing a name change for the list from lis-infoskills to lis-infoliteracy.
The reason for this is that a group of people (including myself and headed by Debbie Boden from Imperial College London and backed by Sheila Corrall, now of Sheffield University) have expressed an interest in creating a special interest group of CILIP to look into Information Literacy. This suggestion was turned down by CILIP, but they put forward the suggestion that this could be a sub-group of the Community Service Group (chiefly public library centred) as they consider information literacy to be an important issue which requires development across all sectors and should be high on everyone's agenda.
This seems to be the place we are now at, and it was thought that an email list should be set up to disseminate information in this area. As this would not be just for members of the group but the profession as a whole, I pointed out that there already was a jiscmail list covering this topic - namely this one, lis-infoskills. So, the idea arose of changing the name to broaden the coverage to lis-infoliteracy.
I am also thinking of changing the description of the list to broaden it out to more than just HE information skills teaching and being for any information literacy teaching/training at any level.
Members of this list are already quite diverse and I don't see that this would impact on us in any major way. However, I would like to make sure that all members were happy with this. So, if you have no problem with the proposed changes just smile and delete this email! If you're against making the changes please let me know by monday 2nd February and I will be happy to discuss things before going ahead and doing anything.
Thanks for reading!
Best wishes,
Sue (list owner)
