*** The Winners of Research in the Workplace Award 2003/4 ***
The winners of the 2003/4 Research in the Workplace Award ($)
are Nicola Bexon, Information Scientist, NeLH Screening Specialist
Library, Oxford and Lena Nordheim, Librarian at the Department of
Health Technology Assessment, Reviews and Dissemination,
Norway for their multi-centred trial.
The randomised trial will compare the effect of self-directed online
learning using a web-based resource, with a classroom based
interactive workshop, on the knowledge and search skills of
health professionals.
Further details will shortly be made available via the RIWA web site
at http://www.ifmh.org.uk/RIWA2003-4.html
*** Number and quality of applications received ***
In 2003/4 particular attention was given to developing a web
resource to assist those new to research in not only developing a
greater understanding of the research process, but also in
translating that knowledge into a strong research proposal.
Nine applications were received by the 30th March 2004 deadline.
The panel was delighted not only with the quality of the
applications received, but also the range of research topics and
methodologies proposed (case study, information needs analysis,
randomised trial, review, survey), and the geographical spread of
applications submitted.
All applicants are encouraged to seek alternative sources of
funding, and personalized feedback has been provided to assist in
what the awards panel believe will enable the individual applications
to be strengthened.
