What is the state of play re ETP now?
Are the technical security requirements adequate to ensure
confidentiality ?
Interesting question if the e-booking trial is anything to go by.
Who gets the informed consent from the patient for their data to be put
on the
Pharmacy database?
My understanding is at the moment those Pharmacies with PMRs (Pharmacy
Medical Records) do already have patient identifiable data and are
obliged to register under the terms of the date protection act as data
controllers. Consent is implied at this point because the data is
required to process the prescription e.g produce the label which has to
go on the box/bottle. One of the results of the ETP evaluation was that
the DH adopted an opt-out approach to the use of the patient identifier
also known as the NHS number. This does not necessarily mean however
that the future system will or should work in this way.
Hope this helps and happy to discuss offline

Subject: Pharmacy queries
Two issues on which I would be grateful for some enlightenment from a
current prescriber ( which I am not)
1) Are there other common medications apart from antiepileptics and
oral contraceptives (both of which I know a bit about clinically) where
changing the formulation
eg prescribing generics when a specific product is prescribed) can
impact on the absorption, effectiveness or side effects? Particularly
interested in drugs acting on CNS. Or where can I easily research this?
2) What is the state of play re ETP now?
Are the technical security requirements adequate to ensure
confidentiality ?
Who gets the informed consent from the patient for their data to be put

Pharmacy database?
Jeff- maybe you could help me here?
Thanks
