Not sure its a case of thinking they know more - but given the opportunity to decide
- the active decision is to not do as you're told.
The very fact that you are allowed the decision makes any decision justifiable -
because otherwise you wouldn't have been given the choice would you?

That idea isn't confined to the semi-informed middle classes ;-(
I've had a consultant refer to GP's as failed consultants - I didn't
post at the time - and not sure I should be doing so now -

That happened when they became consumers and not patients -
something to do the ending of the paternalistic approach to
medicine perhaps?
