Subject: Dell
> The local vendor told me yesterday that Dell are making machines so that
they cannot easily be upgraded.
I have experience of buying one Dell in the practice a few years ago (P133 I
think it was)
* non-standard motherboard and power supply - so..
- if either goes you have to buy replacement from Dell
- can't upgrade motherboard using standard clone parts
- can't reuse the case to build a new PC
* struggled installing a LS-120 drive, because needed drive rails.
- When ordering from Dell was told off because I should have bought the
LS-120 from them and then it would have come with drive rails!
- The drive rails I bought from them (something ridiculous like ukp 15)
having specified for the LS-120 drive, were the wrong one's.
I've never subsequently felt the urge to look at Dells.
