More of a parallel I think - lawyers need to regulate themselves so that law
lords can blow raspberries at home secretaries.
The result in the US is about to be very much worse than ours, I expect.
Doctors need to regulate themselves so that prescribing advisers lying do not
control what is seen as good practice. (Bandolier on topical NSAIDs today)
Both need to be professions so that when the Home Secretary (the one trying to
spend more time with his family now) drives people mad by unconstitutional
confinement in inhumane conditions the madness will be diagnosed and
discussed, and there will be moves to extract them.
