The Mozilla Project decided to split the Mozilla suite into components.
THere is a lot of common development.
The Firefox browser and the Thunderbird mailer are derived from two components
of Mozilla.
Firefox went 1.0 a while ago, and is very nice and stable. Not quite as fast
as Opera and the tabbed interface is a little less versatile than the
multiple document model Opera uses, but it is very satisfactory.
Thunderbird also seems a very useful mailer, good at IMAP and POP and with
reasonable predictive filtering for spam.
