>insurance for newly licensed offspring?
Named driver until passed test then own insurance from Direct Line costing £1250 (Smart car of course). The main argument was that she was going to be the main driver of the car. She has not taken the car to university with her - it is waiting on the drive for no. 2 to need it - but has amassed one year's no claims bonus - at 30%. In the end it is the offspring that save the money and doing it this way costs parents more money undoubtedly sice you cannot expect sixth form students to pay and it is a rather large chunk out of a student loan.
I faled to get insurance that would cover her to drive the people carrier which was somewhat annoying since once you have the additional driver in the family it is rather handy of they can take up some of the taxi roles that fall to parents. That is limited when they drive a Smart car! On the plus side though, statistics show that most accidents in the under 25s involve a driver transporting a car load of friends - presumably either distracted or showing off - therefore a two seater car is a safety measure.
