I think it's actually a useful feature - allowing you to spot such an
oversight before you close the file (unless you turn it off, of
course!).
But I'm very much aware that my secretarial staff tend to recycle
letters when generating stock responses to patients - "that's like the
one we did to Mrs McLaggan last week" - but as they're not transmitted
electronically the issue doesn't arise.
I advocate the use of a shared folder for Word Templates on our clinical
server in which standard letter templates are stored. Once Word has been
set up on any given workstation to look at this shared folder, any time
a secretary clicks File-New she'll be offered the practice's standard
letter templates. A switched-on secretary will spot the commonly-used
letter formats and can add them to the common folder.
