I complained to the PCT about the request I mentioned as it seemed to be an
invitation to breech confidentiality. In due course I got a response after
the 'security management' (I think they mean Counter Fraud) team were asked
about it:
"The request was for information in relation to similar incidents to those
being investigated by Hampshire (and other) Police. Due to the large number
of organisations being contacted and the wide range of possible names and
systems in use to record information in relation to theft and burglaries, it
was decided to simply refer to records. It was not suggested or anticipated
that any health body would consider searching medical records, rather that
records relating to break ins and thefts and follow up action on these would
be searched.
Your comments have been noted and we will in future try to be more specific.
"
The PCT have undertaken to review all such future requests

Can't believe they woudl do this nationwide for a theft enquiry. Perhaps
they are testing how many people will be prepared to send information on a
spurious request ie how secure we are with info?
