On just this subject, I, and possibly some of you, have just received an
email forwarded through the PCT asking for us to reveal confidential info
"in the public interest" as the police are in pursuit of a thief (further
detail may reveal too much to the public eye) and, the email says:
"The police have requested to be notified of the following:
1. Any sightings of [Mr X], in order that they can investigate whether he
may be responsible for further matters.
2. Any details of his location to assist in his apprehension.
3. Any details of similar offences which have been reported, but which the
police were unable to conclude, or that were not reported for whatever
reason."
Nothing in this lomg email suggests that X has done anything other than
steal - contemptible, I agree, but I fail to see how this request can
justify an apparently nationwide dissemination of information and a request
to breech confidentiality, and I suspect that our defence bodies could take
a dim view of this.
What next, Interpol asking for us to grass up whoever's nicked the fax
paper?
Comments?
Thoughts?
