Locally the rates have not been set. I understand from Steve Jones (Chair
Southern Cluster CAG) that the consultant rate has been set at 500 per day.
Simon Bradley suggested that this rate should be the same for GPs (before he
resigned).
I think the powers to be need to be aware that GPs are paid £430 to do one
appraisal, which involves some paper work, meeting with appraisee for 2
hours and then post meeting write up. This would usually be done in the
same PCT so limited travel.
QuOF meetings are even better paid! Personal correspondence rates this at
1300 for a neighbouring PCT, pre meeting reading and meeting, post meeting
write up.
Even our PEC meetings are funded at 330.
We are not locums. If they want locums, then employ locums. If they want
highly experienced IT literate GPs they have to expect to pass reasonable
rates.
For a full days meeting in London, including travel, from distant parts of
the Southern Cluster (Somerset!), to cover the loss of income as a full time
partner and the family disruption, I feel that a rate of around 750 would be
the minimum I would get out bed for… (+ travel cost and pension).

I am so pleased for you.
Perhaps IT systems designed by GPs who earn less in the present regime will
be
as suitable for you as they are for them.

Would the work add anything to the expenses of the Practice?
Not a lot of receptionist time, practice nursing, heating lighting or
telephony involved I think.
I do think that the argument on expenses is one that may be best left out,
suggested rates for work in the Practice have always been around double
those
for work out of the Practice, on that basis of expenses being 50% of gross.
And since you are in 4 days a week, and this would surely be a 5th day
job...
arguments about partners requiring remuneration for covering the work in
surgery you would have done may also be hard to substantiate.
Take what you can get for what you can do.
