It's becoming clear to me that no child should ever be left unsupervised
by less than two independent responsible adults, e.g. a parent and one
other. Nothing should ever be left to chance. For example, I applaud the
suggestion that all intimate examinations should be chaperoned by
someone who is clinically competent to decide whether the examination is
necessary. I would go further and insist that the chaperone should be
from a different practice. Moreover they should never chaperone the same
GP twice, to prevent any collusion.
Indeed, when you think about it it is quite incredible that GPs are
allowed to consult unsupervised. There is always a clear and present
danger of clinical error, poor communication, racial or sexual
harassment, and of course injecting the patient with something lethal.
It should be compulsory for all consultations should be monitored by a
second GP of the opposite sex, not known to the first GP, and changed
for every clinical session.
You can't be too careful.
