My soon to be medical student diabetic daughter is looking for sponsorship for climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in September.
She has committed to raise £2750 - 60% of which goes to Diabetes UK.
So far she has had few replies from companies - tried the drug companies that produce the various insulins/meters/pens/needles etc that she uses - any ideas where she could try next?
It is arranged through Charity Challenge and Diabetes UK and about 30 people will be going, some of which will be diabetic. I understand coping with diabetes at altitude is no mean feat and admire her for going when she has only been diabetic for a year. If any of you have advice about Diamox she'd like to hear it - so far she has received mixed opinions and is in two minds whether to take it.
She goes from September 15th to 26th and starts at Peninsula Medical School on 27th - hopefully time for a shower between Heathrow and Plymouth!
Advice on training also would be interesting - so far it is weekend walks and the gym and swimming but we have 2 weeks in the Lake District for something more directed at climbing mountains.
All in all any advice or opinions would be welcome - either through me or direct to her : [log in to unmask] (Hannah)
Thanks.
KT
