We believe so in a sense. You can't have NHS blood transfusion blood while
you're having a private op, etc. etc.
However if you develop complications during your private hernia repair, you
don't lose the right to be transferred to an NHS ITU / CCU.

Absolutely. While I don't recollect this example being tested, I believe
the principle has been tested by a complaint to the PCT, who were most
supportive.
Obviously if there is different experience in other areas it would be
interesting to hear of this.
