That seems to be the first thing to do.
There are free WLAN hotspots, and ones which have access control. The latter
will require your credit ard number, or identification as someone with an
account.
The "Consume the Net" project and others might replace large chunks of wired
Internet with something that in some ways is better.
There is also the Vodafone network card, which uses GPRS and thus has wider
coverage, but is undoubtedly a cash deal.
