We are often told that saving money on the drugs budget will pay for someone's hip replacement.
Well I've just turned that idea on it's head.
So long as the primary care treatment is relatively cheap and a hip replacement relatively expensive there's little economic
incentive for budget managers to reduce the waiting time for hip replacements.
However if we could increase the price of primary care treatment the balance shifts.
Any economists out there?
