A patient was booked in to have a mole removed privately. When she got to
hospital and was asked the usual question about allergies, she admitted to a
long-standing latex allergy. The consultant plastic surgeon cancelled the
operation and advised the patient that before the op was booked again she
would have to see a dermatologist/immunologist and have further tests to
quantify the allergy. Apparently, so the patient tells me, latex allergy can
evolve over time and regular testing is necessary. The patient was not told
by the surgeon whether or not the surgoeon would be writing to me. The
patient will ring the consultant's secretary and find out. I've not
encountered this situation before. Can anyoneshed any light?
