GMS2 will hopefully get us to stop thinking about tiny bits of money
attached to particular items of service / reimbursements and get us thinking
about income and operating budgets. We also need to think beyond HMS and
even NHS income. We will also be forced to work together either in bigger
practices or consortia of some sort because the bureaucracy and regulation
of GMS2 as well as everything else happening in the NHS and medicine will
be too much to be sensibly managed on this small unit basis.
Now I'm getting over my grieving for the demise of general practice as I
knew it, I am looking for its resurrection in a born-again version. We are
brilliantly inventive, adaptable and entrepreneurial & in the right
circumstances (which I have seen in the last 15 years) we can work together
for mutual advantage and that of our staff and even patients!
Birmingham has more daylight hours this time of year than Glasgow which may
explain why I am recovering more quickly than you Paul :-)
