I'm looking for information.
On 2.3.04, my practice received an email containing all the forms and
details for an additional step in registering children of school age
(5-16 years) involving printing off two forms - an explanation for
parents and a form for them to fill in. The form for parents included
the school, and there was also a map showing the location of the school
nurses.
These requirements were for implementation from 1.3.04.
The explanation for this was that it was a requirement from the Victoria
Climbe report.
I have a number of problems with this.
1. Is this a centrally driven initiative? My practice has patients in
three other PCTs - and we haven't had anything from any of them.
2. Incompetence.
If the PCT/SS/Educational authority needs to know the 5-16 year olds
moving into the area *and* getting registered with GPs, surely, as we
are all on Registration Links, wouldn't it be more logical to get the
PSU to provide a report every 3 months?
Why involve paper for the reporting? *Much* less reliable!
3. My practice has patients in three other PCTs (and Social Service
areas) and we have not had the same demands from any of them.
My question to the panel - anyone else being asked for this type of
information?
If not, what is the *legal* requirement?

PS Don't get me wrong - we do need better systems - just can't see that
this would provide much protection.
My PCT suggests that this is something we have just been *required* to
do - and there won't be any funding for the additional work..
