Absolutely. It is the PCT's responsibility to supply and maintain IT
kit in our surgeries. If I were making the decision on behalf of a PCT
as to whether to take out insurance, I would not - it's a non starter.
The PCTs have never had cash for the long term view, but regardless of
this, the cost of insuring increases while the timescale over which
the kit becomes obsolete reduces, as does the cost of replacement with
the same spec.
Disaster recovery is the issue. Low risk, but super high cost and this
is the responsibility of the individual practice. If your surgery
burnt down, how much would the whole rehab process cost? The PCT would
have to pay for replacement of your IT kit, but this would be a
piffling fraction of whole cost.
