As part of the Newnham College Women's Speaker Series, on Tuesday 2nd
November at 7.30pm Jan Marsh will be giving a talk entitled "Art and
Androgyny." Jan Marsh is a celebrated biographer whose work specialises on
artists and writers. Her latest biography, 'Art and Androgyny: The Life of
Fiore de Henriquez', was published in September 2004. The biography
examines the life and works of the internationally-renowned sculptor, Fiore
de Henriquez, whose numerous public and private commissions included
sculptures of Shirley Bassey, President Kennedy and the Queen Mother. Jan
Marsh will be talking about how Fiore de Henriquez, who was born a
hermaphrodite, grappled with issues of sexual identity in her life and
work.
