Dear list members,
A simple question (hopefully).
A basement of 20m depth has been constructed in London Clay. The measured
short term horizontal ground movement (i.e. inward movement of the wall) is
20mm. Could you give me some idea of the magnitude of long term ground
movement please? Burland and Hancock's (1977) paper on Underground car park
at the House of Commons seems to suggest the long term ground movement is
about double the magnitude of short term movement.
Thank you in advance.
Paul
