All these bloody swirls on the water - every now and then a fin breaks
surface - glad it's not me down in those murky depths. Wondering too what
truth and beauty has to do with all this. I suspect very little.
I'm not sure that anyone's postings can always stand such close readings.
For what it's worth, I think Tim is correct here, racism is inseparable from
imperialism. If Richard could demonstrate his erudition and poetic
sensitivity more often or even at all f/c, I'm sure all of us would be very
grateful. So far I haven't seen a lot of generosity in his occasional
postings.
The dilemma about openness is that it can end up compromising the very
freedoms it seeks to protect. Thinking here of Thomas Mann trying to speak
against Fascism as a bunch of brownshirts shout him down...is it democratic
or the reverse to protect the brownshirts under the rubric of freedom of
speech? I'm not proffering this as criticism, but as a question, which I
realise may well be unwelcome and unanswerable.
