CRUCIBLE is an offering from the Fellowship programme at NESTA, the
National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts. This is an
opportunity that will enhance the careers and creativity of early career
researchers from across science, technology, engineering and medicine.
NESTA back people of exceptional talent and imagination. Through a range
of pioneering programmes, we offer tailored support to enable
individuals to explore new ideas, develop new products and services, or
experiment with new ways of nurturing creativity in science, technology
and the arts.
CRUCIBLE, piloted in 2004, offers early career scientists and engineers
the chance to expand their thinking about science in relation to
society, the media, politics, globalisation and creativity. It consists
of a series of three career and personal development residential
weekends (LABs) spread over the course of one year. The LABs bring
together a cross disciplinary group of participants and present them
with the chance to learn from internationally-respected speakers and
from each other. In the next round of CRUCIBLE, weekends will take place
at St Leonard’s Hall, Edinburgh, Devonport House, Greenwich and
Dartington Hall in Totnes, Devon.
Each CRUCIBLE Award will be tailor-made for the individual. The costs of
travel, catering and accommodation as well as the sessions will be
covered. We will also take care of any other reasonable costs incurred.
We’re looking for applications from committed researchers in science,
technology, engineering and medicine who want to expand their
professional capacity and their horizons. More information about
CRUCIBLE and how to apply can be found on the NESTA website
www.nesta.org.uk or you can receive an application form by emailing
[log in to unmask] CRUCIBLE will be open for application from 6
December 2004 until 26 January 2005 (5pm).
