The Royal Society, the UK's premier scientific body is undertaking a major cataloguing programme funded by the Andrew W Mellon foundation. The Society's archives, dating from 1660, are of international importance and include not only the archives of the organisation itself, but also those of many of its Fellows.
Assistant Archivist Post (Henry Dale Papers)
Library and Information Services Section
Reporting to the Archivist, the post holder will be responsible for cataloguing the collection of Sir Henry Hallett Dale GBE OM (1875-1968) using the CALM for Archives management system. Sir Henry Dale was both Secretary (1925-1935) and President (1940-1945) of the Royal Society, and his collection includes official correspondence, personal files, lectures and related correspondence, photographs, ephemera and his medals and awards.
Applications are invited from enthusiastic applicants who hold a good first degree, with a postgraduate qualification in archive administration and at least one year's experience. Thoroughness, accuracy and attention to detail are essential attributes, as is the ability to work flexibly as part of a small team. Experience of CALM for Archives software is desirable. An interest in science would be an advantage, as would experience of cataloguing personal or scientific papers.
