Archivist (Team Leader)
Bristol Record Office
£24,726 - £26,640 (pay award pending)
37 hours per week
Ref: 8572/NRA
Bristol is a highly successful European city: a regional capital and designated UK centre of cultural excellence. Bristol Record Office is part of the City Council's Cultural Services Division, which plays a lead role in transforming cultural provision throughout the city by striving to provide quality services that meet the needs of diverse local communities. To this end, £11 million has been secured from the HLF for the proposed Museum of Bristol; development is now underway, with support from the Arts Council, to transform the Colston Hall into an international centre for the widest variety of music; and a bid has just been submitted for funding to enable further work around Creative Education, Neighbourhoods of Culture, reanimating the City Centre and the Centenary celebrations in 2005 of the City Museum and Art Gallery.
The Record Office is playing a full part in this by participating in joint projects with the other teams in Cultural Services and has launched an online catalogue, in-house digital picture library and just appointed a Learning and Inclusion Archivist. In addition, it constantly maintains a high profile in the local media.
Shortly the Record Office will take its place as an equal partner in a new Cultural Services team, Museums, Galleries and Archives, and it is hoped that this will provide even greater scope for exciting and innovative projects.
