Digital Archives Department: Archivist (maternity cover)
The University of London Computer Centre operates NDAD (the
National Digital Archive of Datasets) for The National Archives (TNA).
This provides for the preservation, cataloguing and making accessible
via a website of digital datasets selected by TNA for permanent
preservation. Cataloguing is carried out using in-house systems
conforming to both ISAD(G) and EAD. A subject index has been
created using the UNESCO Thesaurus, and a names index using NCA
Rules.
We are seeking an Archivist to join our team of archivists, data
specialists and computer systems staff to cover a period of maternity
leave. Applications from those interested in a secondment or wishing to
job-share would be welcome.
Requirements
Your duties will primarily involve the cataloguing and indexing of digital
datasets and supporting documentation using in-house systems. You
will also deal with the transfer and accessioning of datasets from
central government departments and agencies. This will involve
negotiating with departments and TNA over issues relating to the
transfer and accessioning of datasets.
You should possess a good honours degree, a diploma or masters
degree in archives administration and have a sound knowledge of
archival theory and practice and also of current standards. Knowledge
of electronic records is desirable but not essential.
Appointments will be made on ALC Grade 2, £23,259 - £29,473
(inclusive of London Weighting), or pro rata equivalent for job-share.
