Dear Allstaters,
I hope some of you are interested in a Leeds/Bradford RSS Local Group
meeting to be held in Leeds, next week, at LMU's Beckett Park Campus.
See the Group's webpage for further details, maps etc
http://www.maths.leeds.ac.uk/statistics/rss/
Please note that this meeting will include the group's AGM. It would be
great to have some new faces involved with the organisation, and so if
you are interested in becoming a committee member, please contact the
group's secretary, [log in to unmask], as soon as possible.
Regards, Robert.

Leeds/Bradford RSS Local Group meeting
Wednesday 26th May 2004
Allan Reese (Centre for Environment Fisheries and Aquaculture Science)
Regressing back to basics
Regression models express a mathematical relationship between predictor
variables and a response. The form or existence of that relationship
is often the basis of a research project. Software packages offer a
wide variety of such models, and may be off-putting or bewildering to
users. On the other hand, software that hides or ignores the
difficulties may give nonsensical results. I hope to give a broad
overview, then focus on some specific cases where the mechanical,
unthinking, approach would fail.
Meeting to include the AGM - Please contact the group's secretary,
[log in to unmask], if you want to get involved.
The meeting will be held at Leeds Metropolitan University's Beckett
Park site in CN220, Carnegie Hall, starting at 4pm with refreshments
from 3.30pm.
