Senior Lecturer in the History of Medicine - Department of History

The Department of History at the University of York intends to nominate an
outstanding individual to the Wellcome Trust, under its University Awards
Scheme, for appointment as a Senior Lecturer in the History of Medicine
from 1 October 2005. The scheme allows three years of full-time research,
after which the successful candidate also assumes teaching and
administrative responsibilities. We are ideally looking for a candidate
with interests in the history of health policy in Britain during the
nineteenth and twentieth centuries, but those with other specialisms are
also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have the experience
in research, teaching and administration suitable for appointment at Senior
Lecturer level, will have a clearly defined research project with outcomes
to be published in the first five years in post, will be capable of
developing the use of relevant resources in the Borthwick Institute for
Archives, and will demonstrate the ability to establish effective research
links across the University.
The Department of History is judged `Excellent' for teaching and achieved a
5A ranking in RAE 2001. The successful candidate will play a key role in
the Department s Modern School and in the development in initiatives in the
History of Medicine.
