KEY PRINCIPLES FOR COSTING SERVICES
6 JULY 2004, LONDON
Money is the only thing we can use to compare the relative worth of a sack of potatoes with a chief executive! If we really want to communicate the value and worth of our services we must engage with how much they cost. If you want to make statements like "and all this for only £", or you want to evaluate the cost of a project or service, come on this workshop and learn what your service really costs!
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
* identified ways of breaking down their costs and allocate these to different functions
* calculated the hourly rate they would charge for professional advice
* judged the implications of controls on time inputs to their business unit performance outturn
* evaluated the difference between cost and price
On your return to the workplace, you will be able to calculate the cost of key library services, with occasional support and guidance from accounting colleagues.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Middle/Senior library and information staff who are required to cost all or part of their services, such as an hourly rate of professional advice or a cost for electronic access, for benchmarking or charging purposes.
It is also relevant for those who are embarking on new projects, setting up new services, repositioning existing services and/or bidding for funds.
FEEDBACK FROM PREVIOUS PARTICIPANTS:
"Gained practically applicable skills and information"
"Handouts full of useful examples"
"Knowledgeable and clear"
PLACES ARE LIMITED TO: 16
SPECIAL NOTES: Please bring a pocket calculator with you.
