The Career Development Group is pleased to announce its National Conference for
2004, "Taking the Lead: Leadership in the Library and Information
Profession" to be held on Wednesday 17th November from 10.00am - 4.30pm at the
Goethe-Institut, London. Please contact Philip Booton (details below) to book a place.
Leadership is a key issue for all sectors of the profession and this conference
aims to look at new initiatives along with more practical workshops.
The conference is for all members of the LIS profession looking to move
forward in their careers.
Speakers and topics include:
Leadership Across sectors: Grace Kempster, British Council
Clore Leadership Programme: Sue Hoyle, Deputy Director Clore Programme
Leadership for LIS professionals: Christopher Pressler, Director of Information
Services, Dartington College of Arts
Succession planning: Pat Noon, University Librarian, Coventry University
Overview: Maggie Haines, CILIP President
A range of practical workshops will be on offer in the afternoon, delegates
should choose two from the following list:
Workshop 1: Jacky Berry & Val Skelton, TFPL Manager or Leader: is there a
difference? Do managers need to lead and leaders need to manage?
Workshop 2: Anne Poulson, Head of Library Services, SOAS. Developing your
Leadership skills
Workshop 3: Ayub Khan, Quality & Operations Manager, Warwickshire Library
and Information Services. Leadership : Career Planning - taking the lead.
