Absolutely.
UKP 500 / day, is a very reasonable minimum these days for people with a
basic level of expertise.
Those with significant additional expertise, e.g. the ability to solve
problems as well as highlight them, might well charge more.
The combination of skills of a currently practicing GP with relevant IT
expertise and insight would seem to justify > UKP500 and those people who
charge significantly less are probably selling themselves (and by inference
our profession) short.
As to things going ahead without GP input, let them. They will fall over
and the companies will get the credit they deserve.
