Two different stories:
The deputy CMO Aidan Halligan tells a story of a very junior staff nurse at
a London teaching hospital who was concerned about a consultant's behaviour
to a patient. She confronted him, he recognized the error of his ways and
she was rapidly promoted (as she deserved). He faced no disciplinary
action. He was a good doctor, recognized that a mistake had occurred and
learnt from it.
Paul has presented a story that could be seen as:
Harassment (consultant), blackmail (junior doc), cover up. This brings our
whole profession into disrepute.
Mistake, discussion, learning experience and regard for the integrity and
ability of a junior willing to confront her boss is a whole different story
which brings credit upon all.
Tell us truthfully that it was the latter, but if not, who is guilty of the
cover up?
(Deleting the thread at this stage would sadly only compound this and the
idea that medicine just buries its problems.)

P.S. I absolutely concur with Trefor, and I sympathize that it can be hard
and we can all make mistakes.
