GCG Workshop Identifying Trilobites on Thursday 24 June 2004.
The workshop will be held in the Augustus & Gwen John Room at the National
Museum of Wales, Cathays Park, Cardiff. The museum is situated in the centre
of Cardiff about 15 minutes walk from Cardiff Central Station.
The workshop will be led by Dr Bob Owens, Assistant Keeper of Geology and
Head of Palaeontology at the National Museum of Wales.
Programme
1000 Coffee
1030 Overview of current knowledge, to include: classification, phylogeny,
ontogeny, mode of life, trace fossils and palaeogeography
1230 Lunch in a nearby pub (payable locally)
1400 Practical identification.
i) Demonstration of main groups of trilobites
ii) Practical identification exercises, including specimens commonly
encountered in museum collections and as enquiries (eg Ordovician of
Builth-Llandrindod district; Ordovician-Silurian of south Shropshire;
Carboniferous of northern England).
